In this article, I’ll review the Yohann iPad stand. Yohann is arguably the most innovative and gorgeous-looking iPad stand I have ever tried. I have had it for almost a year, and my opinion hasn’t changed.
Most iPad stands I have tried have one major problem: They hold the iPad at a fixed angle that works well when you sit on a desk, with the iPad in front of you. But what about when you want to watch Netflix in bed or when the iPad is on your kitchen counter while you stand in front of it?

In those cases, the viewing angle is usually less than ideal. This issue is not limited to iPad stands – most cases, including Apple’s Smart Cover, have the same issue.
Yohann – The different iPad stand
Yohann features an incredibly simplistic, yet functional Swiss design that supports three different viewing angles in both landscape and portrait mode. Better yet, Yohann also works on soft surfaces and doesn’t cover the Lightning port, so you can charge the iPad while it is in the stand.
When I first heard about Yohann, I sent an email to Sillber, the makers of Yohann, and they were kind enough to ship me a test unit I could review.
- 3 Angles: Yohann is designed to provide three stable positions.
- Landscape Portrait: All three angles work perfectly for a horizontal and vertical view.
- Soft Surfaces: Yohann provides stable support on soft surfaces like a duvet or a lap when lying in bed or on the couch.
- Charging: An opening on the bottom allows to use the iPad while being connected to the charging cable.
- Great Sound: Additional openings correspond with the location of the iPad’s speakers to provide clear and unobstructed sound quality.
Materials and color
Yohann is available in Oak, Walnut as well as white or black Lacquer. I ordered a unit made of Walnut for my 9.7-inch iPad Air 2.
Yohann Wood is worked out of a massive block of wood. Only a unique combination of sensitive manual work and various precise milling techniques allows us to manufacture Yohann with the highest accuracy and quality. Each surface is carefully sanded by hand in several steps and treated with a natural finishing to bring out the beautiful grain and to achieve a smooth and pleasant touch.
Yohann is compatible with a variety of iPad sizes and generations, including:
- Large – 12.9-inch iPad Pro
- Medium – 9.7-inch iPad Pro | Air 2 | Air | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1
- Small – 9.7-inch iPad Mini 4 / 3 / 2 / 1
Additionally, all products made for 9.7-inch devices come with three different adapters to work for various generations and thicknesses of iPads. Yohann even supports some Android and HTC devices. For more information check out the Yohann user guide.
Yohann is made of high-quality materials, and wood models are hand-sanded. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Yohann isn’t one of the cheapest iPad stands on the market. Depending on the size and material, Yohann costs anywhere between $69 (for the 9.7-inch Lacquer model) to $179 (for the 12.9-inch Walnut model) in the international store.
What I like about Yohann
I like the design and versatility. Being able to change the viewing angle by tilting the stand back or forth is a huge advantage. Just yesterday I was making Paleo Margaritas and had to look up the recipe. I had my iPad propped up in Yohann while it was standing on my kitchen counter. I flipped it all the way back for a perfect viewing angle that wouldn’t have been possible with most other stands. Also, the wood looks gorgeous and fits well with the rest of our furniture and decor.
What I don’t like about Yohann
There isn’t much I don’t like about Yohann except one minor issue that I wanted to point out. Without an iPad, Yohann’s weight distribution makes it rest in the middle position. When I put in my iPad, I usually flip it to the front position, for the most upright viewing angle. I probably do that because I leave my iPad on my nightstand most of the time. And even though I never watch Netflix or anything else while lying in bed, I figure if I did, that would give me the perfect viewing angle. When I grab my iPad, Yohann flips back to the middle position, making a clapping noise when it hits the surface of my nightstand.
It is not a big deal, but I wonder if a thin layer of rubber (or another soft material) on the back of Yohann would dampen that noise without messing with the stability of the stand.
Review of the Yohann iPad stand
As I mentioned in the beginning, Yohann is my favorite iPad stand yet. Its design is beautiful, it’s made of high-quality materials, and it’s incredibly versatile. It is not cheap but worth it in my opinion, and I would highly recommend it to anyone in need for a beautiful and high-quality iPad stand. You can buy Yohann directly from one of its web stores: Switzerland, European Union or International.
